Homes has been a pioneer in the development
of cluster & townhouse complexes,individualy
designed homes,and land for redevelopment,
for
some 40 years. This period has seen the advent
of various themes, styles, and trends- among
them the expansive, ranchy style homes, and 'Star'
exhibitions of the seventies and eighties,
the almost total prevalence of cluster type
developments
and 'gash' townhouses in the nineties, and
the move back to larger stands of the last
couple
of years. In many respects the social and economic
circumstances of the times are reflected by
these dynamics, as lifestyle expectations and
needs evolve- here in South Africa the move
toward the greater security and lower maintenance
of the cluster/townhouse developments is not
illogical, although it is interesting to note
how the demand for larger stands, either in
complexes or 'secure' communities has returned-possibly
as a result of the larger family demands as
occupants needs expand. In terms of styles,
while some remain enduring (thatch, facebrick),
others can be seen more as trends that come
and go: thus the late eighties and early nineties
saw the flat,concrete roofed 'mediterranean'
style, typified by Marrakesh,Bryanston Glades,
Morningside Palms, and Riverclub Estate. Subsequently
'Tuscan' was in vogue, as in Blandford
Ridge Estate and Monte Classique in Lonehill
and Bryanston respectively.
Flint Farm in Riverclub was then a pleasant
break from the overdone 'Tuscan' style, and
reverted to a more classical high pitch roofed,
English farmhouse style.
The company retains some luxury homes for
corporate rentals, as well townhouses to let.
